The family tradition of planting small vineyards of godello, "pezas" in Galician (local language), around the village of Portela started in 1885. Over the years some of these vineyards changed hands and in 2002 the family recovered eleven of them and the first "Pezas da Portela" was produced. This is a most individual and complex Godello. Its character reflects the minerality of the Portela soil rich in decomposed slate. The separate vinification and ageing in oak of each one of the eleven pezas enhances the wine's complexity and allows the mineral character of the soil to fully emerge. The wine displays lovely freshness, flesh and fullness on the palate with layers of fruit and good acidity that combine harmoniously in a long, enveloping finish.
